St. David of WalesDavid of Wales was likely born in Cardiganshire. The year of his birth is not known. An early source says that he died in 601, but other sources give a different year. He was bishop of Menevia and was active at the Synod of Brevi near the Roman military station Loventium. In 569 he presided over another synod at Lucus Victoriae. Later legends have him of royal birth and even related to the legendary King Arthur; one source reports he lived to age 147. His cult was approved by Pope Callistus in 1120. He is the patron of Wales and his feast is March 1. |
