St. DismasDismas is the name traditionally given to the Good Thief crucified with Jesus. Dismas rebuked the other crucified thief who had mocked Our Lord. Dismas then asked Jesus to “remember me when you come into your kingdom” and Jesus replied that Dismas would be with Him in Paradise. A legend from an Arabic infancy gospel, says that as a boy Dismas met the Holy Family as they were fleeing from Herod; Dismas was with a group of thieves, who he prevented from harming Jesus, Mary, Joseph. He is the patron of repentant thieves, prisoners, death row inmates, and funeral directors. |
