St. Dominic SavioDominic Savio was born into a large family in Turin, Italy on April 2, 1842. He was a pious child who became an altar boy at age five and entered the seminary at age twelve. He was a leader among the boys, trying to keep them on the straight path, although he was younger than most. Once when two boys pulled a prank by filling the stove with snow, Dominic was falsely accused of the deed; he kept silent, rather than turn the boys in. He was a favorite pupil of St. John Bosco who wrote his biography. He returned home when ill health prevented him from continuing his studies and he died March 9, 1857. Dominic’s last words were “what wonderful things I see.” He was canonized in 1954 by Pope Pius XII. St. Dominic Savio is the patron of boys, choir boys, juvenile delinquents, and the falsely accused. |
