St. DorothySt. Dorothy was martyred around 303 in Caesarea, Cappadocia for refusing to sacrifice to the gods. According to legend, she was mocked by Theophilus, a young lawyer, as she was led to execution; he asked that she give him fruits from the “garden” she said she would go to after her death. As she prayed before her execution an angel appeared with a basket of roses and apples which she sent to Theophilus. He was converted and also died for his faith. St. Dorothy’s feast day is February 6. She is a patron of gardeners. |
