St. Edburga of WinchesterEdburga was born around 921. The child of King Edward the Elder and his third wife Edgiva, Edburga was the granddaughter of Alfred the Great. She was educated at Winchester Abbey and became a nun. She was made abbess and became known for her virtue. Many miracles were wrought at her intercession during her life. St. Edburga died on June 15, 960. A famous shrine to her was erected at Pershore, a market town in Worcestershire, England. |
