St. Genesius of RomeGenesius was martyred in the third century. Nothing for certain is known of him. According to a legend, he was an actor portraying catechumen in a play satirizing the Christians being performed for the Emperor Diocletian, when he was converted to Christianity. He declared his faith to the emperor who had him tortured for refusing to sacrifice to the gods. Genesius was beheaded when he refused to renounce his new found faith. His feast day is August 25 and he is the patron of actors. |
