St. HonoriusHonorius was the fifth Archbishop of Canterbury; he was elected in 627 and consecrated by St. Paulinus of York in 628. Details of his birth and youth are not known. Venerable Bede reports that he was a Benedictine monk from Rome, a disciple of St. Gregory. Honorius may have come with Augustine of Canterbury on his missionary journey to Britain in 596 or followed later in 601. Honorius sent St. Felix to convert the East Angles; the mission was completely successful. Honorius took care of his diocese with zeal and assisted other bishops in their work. He died on September 30, 653. |
