St. IvoIvo also known as Ives, was born in Kermartin, Brittany on October 17, 1253. His parents were Helori, lord of Kermartin and Azo du Kenquis. Ivo studied civil law at the University of Paris and canon law at Orléans. When he finished his studies he was appoint ecclesiastical judge of Rennes. Around this time (1280) Ives is thought to have become a Franciscan Tertiary. He became an official for the Bishop of Tréguier and was noted for his defense of the Church against unfair taxation and his charity to the poor. Ivo was ordained and appointed to the parish of Tredrez. In 1293 he was moved to Louannee. He died at Louannee on May 19, 1303. He was canonized in 1347 and his feast is May 19. |
