St. RosaliaRosalia was the daughter of Sinibald, Lord of Quisquina and his wife Rosa. Rosa was a descendant of the family of Charlemagne. Rosalia became a hermitess near Bivona when young and later moved to a cave on Monte Pellegrino, close to Palermo. She may have been a nun before becoming a hermitess and the Basilian order claims her as one of its own. She died around 1160 on Monte Pellegrino and was buried there. A church was dedicated in her honor in 1237. Her feast is September 4. St. Rosalia is the patron of Sicily. |
