St. VictoriaVictoria was a Christian virgin martyred about 253 at Tivoli, Italy. According to a tradition Victoria was engaged to the Roman noble Eugenius, a pagan. Eugenius asked her to speak with a Christian girl, Anatolia who was refusing to marry his friend Titus Aurelius. Victoria did so, telling Anatolia that marriage was also a great vocation and that Anatolia might convert Titus if she married him. Anatolia had experience a vision about the greatness of the vocation to consecrated virginity and it was she who drew Victoria to reconsider her own engagement. Victoria consecrated her virginity to God, infuriating Eugenius who imprisoned her in his house and finally turned her over to the Roman authorities who ordered her executed. Anatolia experienced similar treatment from Titus Aurelius. |
